Purpose of HOPE

“I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the orphan who had no helper. The blessing of the one ready to perish came upon me, and I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.” -- Job 29:12-13

Job was not only a man who turned away from evil, but he was a man of compassion. If we as God’s people want to be pleasing to Him as Job was, we not only need to be turning away from evil, but we want to allow the character of Christ to be demonstrated through our lives. The compassion of Jesus doesn’t just look down at the world and say, “Ah, poor souls”, but He uses His people who are willing to be His Hands and Feet, and delivers the poor who cry for help, and the orphans and widows who have no one to help them.

The name HOPE (Heaven for the Orphan People on Earth) speaks for itself as to the purpose of this orphanage: bringing the hope that only Christ Jesus can bring to a hurting, broken, rejected and lonely people. Sister Buelah worked with children in hostels (private or government run schools where mostly poor people send their children to live during the school year to receive an education). She was never satisfied with the quality of spiritual care for the children, so she had a desire to start her own work. The Lord made a divine connection between her and believers outside of India, and in 1998 the provision was there to start an orphanage. You can read more of Buelah’s testimony by clicking onto HOPE Testimonies.
One of the unique characteristics of HOPE is that it is not operated merely as an orphanage, but as a family. The love of Christ compels the leadership of HOPE to do more than just feed, clothe and educate the children that come. They strive to give the children the love and security of a home. Buelah is Mommy, Devasahayam Daddy, and the HOPE children call all the other relatives the same thing that Buelah’s natural children would call them. But along with that love comes commitment and responsibility for the future of these children. True love and commitment won’t simply send them back to their villages when they reach a certain age, but will help them get established in life. Our greatest desire is that the HOPE children learn to find God’s will and calling for their lives, and follow that call. As the Lord guides and provides (and as He tarries) we hope to be able to help support other works of God that will spring up through these children.

As for the widows, there are millions around the world that seem to be forgotten: lonely, rejected by family and society, many times in a helpless situation to even survive. HOPE began feeding a few widows one meal a day in October 2006. Since that time, the response of people giving to support this ministry to widows has been phenomenal, and we can see their countenances beginning to change. As the compassion of Christ moves through human vessels, the Scripture is again and again being fulfilled: “I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.”

The purpose of HOPE in a nutshell: bringing God’s love, healing, light and deliverance to orphaned, abused and destitute children, needy widows, and whoever else the Lord would use us to touch for His glory. “...whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” -- 1 Corinthians 10:31

Vision and Goals of HOPE

“Lord, You know the hopes of the helpless. Surely You will listen to their cries and comfort them; You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so people can no longer terrify them.” -- Psalms 10:17-18.

We hope you will click onto The Father’s Heart and look at the Scriptures and articles, because this is one of the primary goals of HOPE, to be an expression of the Father’s Heart to brokenhearted people. God’s Word is full of Scriptures revealing His love for them.

With tens of millions (some estimates run from 40 to 100 million) orphans in the world, and probably far more widows than that, it’s difficult to keep the vision small. But HOPE is in the Lord’s Hands, and as He touches the hearts of His people to give and pray, then we will do all He enables us to do. Because of the desire to maintain a family environment for the children, the number of children at HOPE will never be large. At this writing in mid-2007 there are 32 children in HOPE, and may not exceed 40 to 45 at any one time in one home. He could lead us to start other orphanage/families in future days, especially as the present children in HOPE get older and desire to work with children as well (many already have the desire to be used of Christ to minister to hurting people).

It’s very difficult to say what exact direction the Lord may take HOPE, as He often surprises us in His leadings and provision. The HOPE Manna Program is a great example of this. Only in early 2005 did the burden to assist needy widows begin to enter our minds. In early 2006 HOPE had its first meeting for local widows. In October 2006 the feeding of widows began with a small group of 8 eating one meal a day. Within only 6 months the number grew to 29 widows eating twice a day, hearing the Word, singing and praying at evening devotions.

At this time HOPE should soon be done with land preparations and partially building a compound wall around a quarter acre of land purchased for a larger facility. The present facility is about 2,000sq.ft. and very crowded. But what a joyous sight to see over 60 children and widows gathered together at mealtime! Tentative plans are to begin with a 3,000sq.ft. building; then as the Lord provides, add a 2nd floor. This would be a large enough building to accommodate for growing children, adding some more children, having their own school, and possibly taking in some of the more desperate widows. Who knows what the Father may want to do? There’s also more land that adjoins the new HOPE land that could be purchased. Other possibilities that exist are a tailoring shop (providing work for some of the children, as well as generating some income for the home), having a small medical clinic to reach out to the community, and growing some of their own food on the land. “Commit your works unto the Lord, and your plans will be established.” -- Proverbs 16:3 You can get more details about the building project by clicking onto HOPE Building Fund.

The vision and goals of HOPE in a nutshell: To be used of the Lord to touch as many needy and brokenhearted children, widows and lives as possible during our short opportunity here on this earth. And that through it all, He would be recognized and honored by those who have been touched, and by all who are connected with this work.

“Now to Him Who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” -- Ephesians 3:20-21
