Your gifts have a far reaching impact! $35 per month enables us to provide a child with a good education and meet their physical needs. Faithful monthly donors also allow us to bring in more children.
This video is an excellent example of our girls leading songs during a village meeting.
"A father to the fatherless and a judge for the widow is God in his holy habitation. God makes a home for the lonely." Psalm 68:5-6
HOPE Children's home is located in the southern Indian State of Andhra Pradesh near the Bay of Bengal. RHM first became acquainted with Sister Buelah, HOPE's "mommy", in 1994. Buelah worked in a leper colony and for children's homes in the 12 years prior to the start of HOPE in 1998. The HOPE family began with one child and currently has about 35 children.
In the beginning Buelah took kids into her home but today the girls have their own property and building. HOPE school occupies the second story of the girls' home, and the boys currently live in a nearby rental house.
A visitor from America described the girls' home in this way:
"I was particularly impressed with how the older girls were leaders. They helped the younger children in so many ways...from getting dressed, to fixing their hair with ribbons and bows, playing drums and leading the songs and reciting scripture from memory. I watched how the little ones looked up to them and learned. Sister Buelah does an amazing job setting expectations, teaching responsibility, and ministering to these kids."
Many of our children come from difficult and painful situations. Abandonment, abuse, poverty, and neglect are common threads throughout the stories of their short lives. We praise God that he will take these threads of sadness and weave them into a work of beauty and grace as they seek him. Each home has morning and evening devotions which include prayer, singing, scripture memory, and teaching from the word.
Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of the HOPE family has been watching so many of these kids become leaders among the other children and servants of Christ through ministry outside of the home. Many of our older girls in particular visit local villages on a weekly basis and lead various songs, skits, and activities for the poor tribal children. We believe that the Lord has called us to commit to each child he brings our way and this includes preparing them for life beyond their years in our home. We don't simply desire to get them a job and send them away when they reach adulthood. We want to stay devoted while he or she gets settled in life - whether that is a career, marriage, and/or ministry. We provide them with the opportunity for higher education and the spiritual guidance they need to make successful choices for their future.
